Central Ohio Has Fastest-Growing Bioscience Industry.

reports, "Central Ohio is keeping up the fastest pace of growth in its
bioscience industry of six regions in the state." According to a report
released Sept. 19 by BioOhio trade group, Ohio has "1,281 companies and
organizations employing 60,600 workers in fields encompassing medical and
agricultural products and research, such as pharmaceutical companies and
medical device manufacturers. Employment in the biological sciences increased
by 16.5 percent in the state from 2000 to 2011 while overall state employment
declined." The report says the sector "generated $4.6 billion in
payroll in 2011 and the average wage is about $75,500, compared with the
statewide average for all industries of $42,500."
